Overview

Wikispaces provides users with multiple ways to share data. In my courses we will focus on four of them: 1.) the discussion board; 2.) the wikipage; 3.) the wikipage comment feature; and 4.) uploading a file to wikipage.

1.) The Wikispace Discussion Board

The engineers at Wikispaces have built a decent discussion board so that you can share your thoughts. You will need to be logged into wikispaces in order to post comments on my discussion boards; they are protected from the public. Figure 5 shows an example of a discussion board and its comments.

2.) The Wikipage

You will be able to build a wikipage on a course or trail wiki. A wikipage is what you are reading right now. When you create one, you will be able to upload files, type in text, & insert pictures, discussion boards, videos and more. In the past, I have had teacher candidates build a wikipage to host lesson plans and lesson artifacts. Figure 6 shows an example of a wikipage built by a teacher candidate from my EDU 312 math and science methods course. You will notice that the wikipage is named after the teacher candidate, in this case Vivian. She was able to insert text and an image for a math lesson she taught.

3.) The Wikipage Comment Feature

The engineers at Wikispaces created a tool that enables wikispace users to leave comments on a wikipage without disrupting the content of the wikipage. Figure 7 shows comments posted on a wikipage. You will notice that the comments are represented by yellow buttons located on the right hand side of a wikipage. When you click on a button, the comment is revealed.

4.) Upload a file to a Wikipage

You can all files of all types to a wikipage that you create or that I have created.

It is important for you to know that I will provide tutorials on how to build all of these features during my course. This wikipage was not intended to teach you how to build these features, but to show you three ways that you will share ideas. These tools will enable you to post your thoughts & ideas. In order for you to evaluate the quality of your ideas, you will be provided with rubrics and checklists.
